Ceramike is an attempt to share my enthusiasm,
knowledge and photographs of functional studio pottery. I must
admit to being a follower of traditional work of Leach influence
and enjoy my annual pilgrimage down to St. Ives. I only wish my
interest had been kindled earlier in life so I would have been
able to meet more of the potters I admire and would have been
able to buy at more reasonable prices.
My experience of potters and fellow collectors is a happy one,
the studio pottery world seems to attract the right sort of people.
My response has been to build this knowledge base and share it
with you all. Judging by the favourable comments that I receive
on a regular basis, my work has not been in vain but please feel
free to suggest improvements. I have so far resisted the temptation
to include a selling section. Those of you familiar with Ebay
may have noticed that ceramike
occasionally participates. Money and space are both limited so
the buy and sell technique helps keep new pots arriving and allows
me to stay within budget.
I would like try pottery for myself but a mortgage and children
going through university mean I can't give up my day job yet.
I was once a research geologist so I have worked with the raw
materials of pottery which was a good start but I've spent the
last 25 years in the computer industry working as a software engineer.
My other interests are photography and travelling, fortunately
these can easily be combined with pottery. This year I'm hoping
to get over to Minnesota or should I say Mingeisota to visit Warren
MacKenzie and the other potters in that region. If I do, then
you will be able to share my experience, albeit virtually.
