Vera Tollow made high quality pots in Surrey
for over 30 years, but there are few people who remember having
seen more than a handful of them. This is because she didn't fit
into any particular niche – her work is more similar to
artists like Henry Hammond or Helen Pincombe than to potters of
the Leach tradition – she was not greatly featured in contemporary
writing.
Paul has slowly been acquiring her work for many years and exhibits
about 50 pots – from major examples of her ash-glazed stoneware
to small painted dishes – from her early 1950s slipware
to tenmoku pots from the 1980s. It is unlikely there will be as
many pots of her pots exhibited again for a very long time.
