Leach Pottery - 1946 Standard Ware

The 1946 catalogue includes a number of new pots notably the elements of a celadon tea set. A number of other sets made up of combinations of individual standard ware pots were also available. These are shown below the list of individual pots.

2008 Relative Value

My calculations are based on the average weekly wage of an agricultural labourer in 1946 (£4 12s 2½ d) compared with the 2008 minumum wage of £5.50 an hour for 40 hours. If anyone knows of a better way of calculating price inflation please let me know! This gives multiplier of around 48x.

A look through some 1946 newspapers at my local library revealed the following prices which may offer a better comparison:

Newspaper - 3d
A night at the theatre - 2s 6d
Bottle of sherry - 5s 9d
Mintons white china tea set - £2 15s 8d
Brooke Bond Dividend tea - 1s 7d for a ½lb
